  Plan to Live

April 13, 2019

God has great things in store for you!  Great things, notice I didn't say small, bad, evil or harmful.  So don't think that everything that's for your life is small, mediocre, less or bad.  Stop speaking negativity  over your life and the lives of your family.  Let positive thinking be your guide to a great life and lifestyle.  Stay motivated and inspired to get what you deserved!   God said he wishes that we prosper and be in good health and that's the the total woman/man the whole make up of who we are.  what are you waiting for.  Don't let it be too late to start walking in the plan and purpose for your life.

Worrying and Loving

September 10, 2017

Hello to all you ladies of True You Women’s Empowerment! Welcome to our first blog/conversation. In these blogs I would like to discuss with you the ups and downs of womanhood. Discussions will cover anything from business and family to health and emotional awareness. If at any time there is a topic you would like to discuss feel free to drop the topic in the comments and I’ll consider it for the next blog. Now… let’s talk. So, recently I had a conversation with a friend who is 28 years old, unmarried, has no children and studying for her MCAT to become a doctor. The conversation went something like this: Friend: I’m stressed. I take my test in a couple of weeks. I need to just clear my mind, I hope I do well. Me: You’ll do fine. You retain more information than you realize. I’m not gonna say don’t be nervous because you’re gonna be anyway. Just realize that you’re nervous because it’s important to you, not because you don’t know the material. Friend: But I’m messing up on small things and my score isn’t increasing the way I want it to. It’s stressing me out because I want it so much. I just don’t want to feel like I’ve done all this schooling for nothing. I know that my purpose is greater; right now I’m just feeling really low. Me: You’re putting pressure on yourself. You don’t answer to anybody but you. You need to make your mind up that if you have 1,000 degrees or no degrees you’re still valuable. You will take the test, you will do your best and you will be proud of yourself because you gave your all regardless if the outcome is what you want or not. Notice the worrying is being created from her own mind. She didn’t mention any surrounding stressors accept her. Often times the stress in our lives is something we create through our own desires or by us chasing the things we feel we should have. Don’t be confused, it’s absolutely ok to set goals and want to achieve them. It is also ok to know your worth without the achievements, just as it is ok to know that you are beautiful even without make up. Some like to say that it’s the generation or the times we live in that force us to be pressured. I disagree. In the book of Matthew chapter 6 Jesus addresses this very issue: “25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,

what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?” If Jesus felt the need to address this over 2000 years ago, this is not new to this generation. And so I leave you beautiful ladies with this: Love you. Love you with a degree, love you without a degree and love you in between if you’re trying for a degree. Love you regardless of what others say or think. Love who you’ve become and love who you will be. Less worry, more love.

Until next time,

Shameka T.

For our next discussion, feel free to leave a comment explaining how you de-stress.

Stay Focused

November 21, 2017

Since we are in the home stretch of this year (only 42 days left…that went by fast, right?), and some of us will be planning New Year resolutions, let’s talk about focus. It’s one thing to have goals, to have a plan and to execute the plan but focus is a whole different playing field. Dictionary.com defines focus as “a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity”. What we focus on is what we will attract. What we focus on has our full attention. What we focus on determines the activities we will engage in.

Looking at Luke chapter 10, Jesus talks to Martha about where her focus was. Martha was upset because here she is cleaning and cooking and laboring and Mary didn’t care to help. Martha approached Jesus and asked him “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?” Jesus very clearly told her that she was focused on the wrong things (v.41). That she had put herself in a position to serve alone because of where her focus was. Even worse she had put herself in a position AWAY FROM HIM because of where her focus was. Mary, her sister, had chosen a place at the Savior’s feet taking in all the knowledge she could and enjoying an experience that Jesus says “will not be taken from her” (v.42).

Martha’s focus was on being a good hostess and her actions determined her activities. She was focused on serving and her full attention was not on Jesus. This caused her to feel ostracized. Ladies, in this upcoming year I encourage you all to be careful what you give your attention to. What you are focusing on could be the cause of feelings of hopelessness, depression, and lethargy. Instead, focus on things that uplift, encourage and energize. When you set your goals for the year and make out a plan to achieve them, also make a list ahead of time of things, people, and programs that will support your vision. This way when you run into an issue, as we all know can happen, you can quickly counter your problem and move forward.

What you focus on is what you will attract. If you want to foster happiness in your life you simply cannot focus on the situations and people in your life that hurt you or cause you sadness. So, that person does not like you and there is no obvious reason why. Well, let’s just do them a service and stay out of their way and focus on the people who love you. Focusing on those who love you will determine your actions to be in contact with people you feel appreciated by, attracting the feeling of happiness. You want to save this year? Focus on your bank account balance instead of your credit cards. Focus on needs instead of wants. Let your focus determine your actions.

What we focus on has our full attention. If you are focused on a ‘hopeless situation’, you can’t be focused on the solution. If you are focused on what you feel you should have now, but don’t yet have, you can’t be focused on what it takes to get it. It’s good to have a goal, but to get there; you need to focus on your plan of execution. No one reaches a goal without going through the steps needed to reach the goal.

Lastly, ladies what we focus on determines the activities we engage in. When I was younger, around 19 years old, to be honest I didn’t have a focus. It showed in my life big time. I moved from Detroit to Mt. Pleasant to Saginaw to Lansing. In doing that I changed from job to job. I was going whichever way the wind was blowing. Without that focus I was not grounded, I had set no goals to reach. Then I had my daughter and gained focus. Looking back I can see the changes in my life are a reflection of my change in focus. What areas of your life does your focus need to change? The decisions you do or don’t make today, will determine what your future looks like. What your future will look like depends on the activities you participate in now.

So! That’s our talk. Set goals, make a plan, execute the plan and STAY FOCUSED!
